This Website

Content

On this site you will find my portfolio of Web Design and Architecture projects. It is also a place where I experiment with web technologies and design. Some of the content such as the Seen Architecture project is intended to be a resource available to anyone looking for a reference photo. In the near future I hope to include more useful information and links.

Icon

The little blue & white icon, by the way, is the iconic rear elevation of Sigurd Lewerentz Flowerkiosk in Malmo cemetary. Thought it might be a suitably ambiguous image of a house.

Video

For political and technical reasons I recommend using the Ogg/Theora format for digital video. You should consider downloading the excellent VLC media player which is able to play most available video formats. It also comes with a web browser plugin.

The reason I recommend these formats is that they are free and open, unrestricted by complicated licensing and copyright laws that restrict access, interoperability and creativity.

The infrastructure of the internet should be free and open

Design

The current design of the website is based on the html default so it looks a bit like a website without design. Perhaps it is the old Doing almost nothing that is appealing again.

Me

I live in Islington, North London where I work as an architectural/research assistant at ARU. I am originally from Pitea in northern Sweden. For more info have a look at my cv

Web Browser

Microsoft Internet Explorer lacks features available in other web browsers and uses non-standard extra features that makes maintaining and designing websites more difficult. I suggest you download and install one of the following Firefox, Opera, Konqueror (Linux), Epiphany (Linux). Not only are they easier to create websites for they are also more enjoyable to browse the web with.

This is what the homepage looks like if you use a browser other than Internet Explorer. The background image changes every time you load the page. The screenshot is of Firefox being used on Linux (Gnome).

Printing

When printing large images please use the print preview to ensure that the image fits your page. If if doesn't, change the paper orientation (portrait, landscape) to solve the problem.

Architecture

By careful observation and a shift in the way you see, every building and place can become a positive source of inspiration. Small clues reveal how to make something special out of the ordinary. The qualities that make something look good on paper are usually not the qualities that make something retain dignity and beauty through rain, dirt and misuse.

Web Technologies

The content is stored as xml, a markup language that allows you to freely describe and define content. Along with xml comes tools for transforming, selecting and sorting data. By using xsl the xml can be automatically transformed into webpages, text documents and lots of other formats, hiding, sorting, selecting automatically. After transformation to html (webpages), layouts and typography can be assigned via css. This combination of technologies enables me to completely change the look of this website in a matter of minutes.

Icons

The icons used in the folder views are the Tango Icons.
